Join I2SL National Capital for our new Fall event, hosted by Arup as we meet again to discuss the hot topic of Decarbonization and Electrification in Lab Facilities, new and old! Networking before and after to meet your peers and new lab connections in the metro Wash DC area.

Lane is an Associate Director overseeing Environmental Sustainability for the Oncology R&D business unit at AstraZeneca. AstraZeneca is a leading global pharmaceutical company providing life-saving medicine across Oncology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, and many more. Lane manages the execution of AstraZeneca’s ambitious environmental sustainability initiatives at AstraZeneca’s flagship US R&D site in Gaithersburg, MD. Lane’s specific focus is site-level sustainability such a scope 1&2 emissions, energy efficiency, and all things building operation. Prior to AstraZeneca Lane spent 5 years in the chemicals industry as a chemical process engineer.

Lauren is an Associate and sustainability consultant in Arup Washington, DC office with a specialization in embodied carbon and sustainable materials. Lauren has experience in the practical implementation of carbon reduction strategies, having previously worked as a structural engineer designing mass timber buildings. In her role as a sustainability consultant, Lauren supports portfolio and building scale projects for clients seeking to rapidly decarbonize. Lauren is a founding member of the Structural Engineering Institute’s SE 2050 Commitment Program and incoming co-chair. Through her role as an embodied carbon expert, she is regularly consulted on industry initiatives and the development of guidelines and standards to improve embodied carbon methodology.

Ari is the Managing Principal at BR+A Washington DC office with over 29 years of experience with renovation, addition, and new construction projects nationwide. As a graduate of Penn State University Architectural Engineering Program, Ari is a two-time recipient of the ASHRAE Design Regional Award, Consulting Specifying Engineers 40 under 40, and Healthcare Facilities Symposium board member. Ari is a member of multiple professional organizations and project experience includes Life Science, Healthcare Academic, mission critical, from 100 sf -3 million sf. He has a passion for highly technical & sustainable projects, and national parks with his family.

Regal Leftwich is a Principal in the Science and Technology practice at CannonDesign and has over 25 years of architectural design experience with a focus on technically complex science facilities. He has worked on over 19 million square feet of laboratory projects, from strategic master planning, programming, design and construction of new and existing facilities for the commercial, government and academic sectors. Working closely with scientists, Regal promotes a collaborative and iterative process to facilitate environments that enhance interaction and innovation while supporting the functional requirements of science. At the intersection of research and practice, he has authored 6 books and 4 peer-reviewed research papers on the topic of laboratory design.

Holly is a Vice President at CannonDesign's Science and Technology Practice and is currently working with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Stonebridge, Matan and MDAnderson.
A Harvard graduate in Architecture and Fine Arts, her passion is with sustainable design and high performance buildings--including understanding embodied carbon! She is a member of the Net Zero Energy Coalition of the National Capital Region and sits on MIT's Building Innovations Hub Advisory Board.
