Join MLK50: Justice Through Journalism for an intentional community conversation about the death penalty in Tennessee.
We’ll examine how capital punishment is applied across the state, the botched execution attempts of Tony Carruthers and Christa Pike, and why people from Shelby County make up the majority of Tennessee’s death row population.
Brittany Brown, MLK50’s public safety and justice reporter, will join community members to lead a discussion on the death penalty, its impact, and how it affects incarcerated people and their loved ones. Attendees will also learn how to write letters to incarcerated individuals as a tangible act of solidarity.
Dinner will be provided for free for all attendees following the discussion.
