A Civic Collection: Federal Art at the Byrne Green Federal Complex

Discover bold color, monumental sculpture, and the stories behind some of Philadelphia’s most striking federal artworks from the U.S. General Services Administration’s Fine Arts Collection on this tour of the Byrne Green Federal Complex. Featuring works by Charles Searles, Moe Brooker, Louise Nevelson, and David von Schlegell, the tour explores how painting and sculpture bring movement, energy, and meaning to civic spaces. From vibrant abstraction to towering sculptural forms, these works reflect Philadelphia’s rich artistic legacy and reveal the way art can shape our experience of federal buildings. Along the way, visitors will learn about GSA’s Art in Architecture program and the role of public art in transforming everyday spaces.
You must register for this tour in advance. The tour is limited to 30 people and will meet at the David von Schlegell fountain in front of the Byrne/ Green Federal Complex on the west side of 6th Street between Market and Arch.
