A Celebration of Poetry featuring Ken Meisel and Joy Gaines-Friedler. They will read their poetry for National Poetry Month.Pushcart Prize nominated poet, Joy Gaines-Friedler is the author of three full-length books of poetry, her most recent Capture Theory (Kelsay Books, 2018) is a Forward Review Indiefab Finalist, and an Edward Hoffer Award, Finalist. Her work has been published in over 80 books, anthologies and literary magazines including The New York Quarterly, The San Pedro River Review, Rattle and The Bloomsbury Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poets. Her chapbook Stone On Your Stone is a 2021 winner of Celery City Chapbook Contest. Joy teaches creative writing for non-profits and communities at risk - including Freedom House Detroit where she works with refugees from Northern and Western Africa.
Ken Meisel is a 2012 Kresge Arts Literary Fellow, Pushcart Prize nominee, and winner of the Liakoura Prize. He is the author of eight poetry collections, including: Consent of a Distance published by Kelsay Press 2022, Our Common Souls: New & Selected Poems of Detroit (Blue Horse Press: 2020) Mortal Lullabies (FutureCycle Press: 2018), The Drunken Sweetheart at My Door (FutureCycle Press: 2015). He has work in Rattle, Crab Creek Review, Concho River Review, San Pedro River Review, The McGuffin.
