A Bonsai Introduction
About this Event
Discover the timeless art of bonsai in this hands-on workshop at Lyon Arboretum. Learn the fundamentals of this centuries-old horticultural art form as you explore pruning, wiring, shaping, and cultivating miniature trees.
Each participant will receive a Miniature Jade Plant (Crassula ovata 'Minima') to transform into their own bonsai during the class and continue nurturing at home. Along the way, you'll gain practical skills in pruning, propagation, and long-term bonsai care.
Proceeds from this class support Lyon Arboretum’s educational programs.

- Supplies and materials will be provided for a small fee of $10 ( plant, pot, bonsai soil, and scissors)
About the Instructors
The workshop will be led by two highly respected bonsai artists from the Classic Bonsai Club of Oʻahu. Alvin Chang, Bonsai Sensei and club leader, brings more than 40 years of experience and is recognized as a master practitioner. He will be joined by Nelson Dias, an accomplished bonsai practitioner with over 12 years of experience cultivating bonsai on Oʻahu. Together, they will provide personalized technical and artistic guidance throughout the class.

$50.00 ($40 class fee + $10 supply fee)
Earlybird Tickets for FLA members open on August 14th. General public sales open on August 16th
Tickets close: September 2nd.
Deadline for refunds: September 4th. Refunds are for the cost of the ticket only; Eventbrite processing fees will not be refunded. Full refunds will be given in the event of a class cancellation. Credit cannot be given towards other classes.
