Speaker | Aby Zahrim Ismail, Wai Yee Lam, Justine VazThe establishment of the Tiger Reserve of 134,183 hectares in the heart of Pahang is one of the most exciting conservation actions in Malaysia in recent years. The new Tiger Reserve will bring into active management a remote rainforest refuge that, in combination with Taman Negara National Park and adjacent forest in neighbouring Terengganu, will connect an extensive tiger landscape. We believe it is a significant step forward to bring about natural recovery of the Malayan tiger in the wild. But this journey is just beginning – there is much to do to effectively operationalize the new protected area to realise this vision. We have hope but we know that this is a race against time. This is a mission that calls for resources, trained personnel, practitioners and experts, and our deep resolve.
In this talk, find out what is already being done on the ground and meet some of the people working on establishing the Tiger Reserve, neutralizing the threat of poaching, restoring habitat and wildlife populations, and optimizing benefits to local people.
