NEIU welcomes Mexican poet and multimedia artist Rocío Cerón for a virtual event!

Poet and multimedia artist Rocío Cerón is based in Mexico City. Her work transits between artistic languages (poetry, music, body and image) creating transmedia pieces. Her pieces have been showed at international venues such as Centre Pompidou, Paris; Southbank Centre, London, Modern Art Museum, Mexico, Cervantes Institutes of Berlin, London and Stockholm; in addition to many others. She has released the sound poetry album Sonic Bubbles (2020); and published the poetry collections Spectio (2019), Borealis (2016), Nudo vortex (2015), and Diorama (2012). Diorama was translated by Anna Rosenwong and won the Best Translated Book Award 2015, awarded by the University of Rochester. She has also been awarded with the National Award of Literature Gilberto Owen 2000 (Mexico), the See America Travel Award 2005 (US) and has been one of the 25 artists selected for the Image Center, Photography Biennial 2021 at the Image Center in Mexico. Her poems have been translated into English and diverse European languages. She has been part of the National System of Art Creators of México (SNCA) since 2010.

La poeta y artista multimedia Rocío Cerón reside en la Ciudad de México. Su obra transita entre lenguajes artísticos (poesía, música, cuerpo e imagen) creando piezas transmediales. Sus piezas han sido expuestas en escenarios internacionales como el Centro Pompidou, París; Southbank Centre, Londres, Museo de Arte Moderno, México, Institutos Cervantes de Berlín, Londres y Estocolmo; junto a muchos otros. Ha lanzado el álbum de poesía sonora Sonic Bubbles (2020) y ha publicado los libros de poesía Spectio (2019), Borealis (2016), Nudo vortex (2015) y Diorama (2012), entre otros. Este último fue traducido por Anna Rosenwong y ganó el Premio al Mejor Libro Traducido 2015, otorgado por la Universidad de Rochester (Estados Unidos). También ha sido galardonada con el Premio Nacional de Literatura Gilberto Owen 2000 (México), el Premio See America Travel 2005 (Estados Unidos) y ha sido una de los 25 artistas seleccionados en la Bienal de Fotografía 2021, Centro de la Imagen (México). Sus poemas han sido traducidos al inglés y a diversos idiomas europeos. Desde 2010 forma parte del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte de México (SNCA).

Save the date! The Lit & Luz Festival returns November 1-6, 2021. Through this year’s theme, “Structure,” participants will consider the physical structures that house us, political and societal structures that surround us, and much more.

The 2021 Chicago festival will be hybrid and feature both virtual and in-person programs including readings, conversations, and workshops. We’re excited to announce that the one-and-only Live Magazine Show will be presented in partnership with the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts.
