Welcome to the audition to see who can join A Back Line, the next hit improvised musical show at Big Fork Theatre. We've seen lots of hopefuls today and the troupe just want to know "How many people do you need?" See this wildly fun Improvised Genre Musical in the style of the Big Audition. Think A Chorus Line, Centre Stage or the popular Step Up the Streets because Step Up didn’t make the shortlist - that’s the level we are talking about. Hearts will be broken, dreams will be made, mirrors are involved. Someone will cry – probably the director.

THE UNEXPECTED GENRE SHOW (25 mins)

Presented by Edge Improv in association with Big Fork Theatre(Meanjin/Brisbane) as part of the Brisbane Improv Festival 2026.

Romantic comedy? Historical action? Psychological thriller? Who knows what unexpected form this show will take? The performers definitely don't... the style of show will be randomly chosen and the players must then perform a show that best expresses the selected genre, no matter how weird or obscure. Whether that be a French New-wave, absurdist office drama, or a surrealist fable. You're sure to end up with something unexpected!

About the Brisbane Improv Festival

This year’s festival will be held on the 14th - 18th of July 2026 - that’s five nights of incredible improvised shows open to the public, and we will host 14 different workshops for improvisers to expand their skills. Previous Festivals had shows from around Australia and New Zealand, this festival is not to be missed!
