Between Sunday 4 and Thursday 8 September 2022, in the city of Santiago, Metropolitan Region, Chile, the “9th International Symposium on Aquatic Animal Health (ISAAH, for its acronym in English)” will be held. The event organized by the Fish Health Section of the American Fisheries Society and held every four years.
ISAAH typically attracts around 300 to 400 fish health professionals from around the world and this will be the first time it has been held outside of North America.
“As a global forum for interdisciplinary collaboration and communication, ISAAH aspires to create an environment of fellowship, to learn and share the latest innovative research, with a vision of building a better future for aquatic animal health professionals.”
The organization added that the ninth edition of ISAAH will bring together scientists from around the world to open up new avenues of research and help foster international collaborations.
The 9th ISAAH will be held at the Extension Center of the Catholic University of Chile (PUC). Founded in 1888, the PUC is one of the oldest universities in the country and one of the most respected educational institutions in Latin America. Chile, in turn, is a key player in global aquaculture and especially in the cultivation of salmonids and mussels (mussels).
In the organization of the symposium, they also highlight that Chile has diverse habitats, from the Andes mountain range to the Pacific Ocean, from the desert in the north to the Patagonia area in the south-austral. “Enjoying more than 5,000 kilometers of coastline and an extensive network of aquatic ecosystems in the middle of numerous hydrographic basins, rivers, and lakes, Chile is an attractive destination for researchers in aquatic animal health,” the organizing committee highlighted. who added that Santiago “is a vibrant city with diverse cultural roots, exquisite and first-rate museums; as well as restaurants, bars and cafes. We hope that you will join us in Santiago for a truly inspiring event. “
The organizing committee is made up of Matt Griffin from the Mississippi State University School of Veterinary Medicine (USA); Fernando Mardones from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the PUC; Esteban Soto from the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of California – Davis (United States); and Natalia Zimin-Veselkoff from the PUC School of Veterinary Medicine.
