Just in time for Thanksgiving, New Port Richey FarmNet joins with the First United Methodist church of New Port Richey to welcome local growers, businesses, and the community to celebrate the ninth annual Sweet Potato Round-Up and Fall Farming Festival on November 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
The Sweet Potato Round-Up features organic sweet potatoes, offered by New Port Richey FarmNet. This year’s local harvest has been very light, so to supplement local production, we will enjoy organic sweet potatoes from out of the area shared by FarmNet Supporter, Wright’s Natural Market.
Buying and using these sweet potatoes supports local organic agriculture, local growers, community gardens, and the FarmNet gardens and markets project. It also keeps resources in the community, demonstrates food sovereignty, and supports those who have made a commitment to urban agriculture in and around New Port Richey.
Besides the fresh spuds, the event features sweet potato recipes, sample tastings of dishes, and locally-acclimated seasonal vegetable seeds. Included will be a program with presentations on sweet potato growing and culture, New Port Richey FarmNet and the local agrarian project – and possibly local agrarian literary offerings.
Expected at the event will be Sweet Potato recipes and tastings from FarmNet Supporters, Gone Juicing, East Madison Growers, and The Blarney Scone. Look for seasonal juices, sweet potato soup, sweet potato scones, and maybe a special sweet potato sweet.
