About this Event

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Whole Child Leon will convene the 9th Annual Summit on Children at FSU’s Augustus B. Turnbull III Conference Center (555 W Pensacola St, Tallahassee, FL 32306) from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM.

This community-driven event was created to increase public/private business awareness, engagement, and investment in early childhood programs – yielding better outcomes for children and families, and powering the future of Leon County.

Since the Summit’s inception, approximately 4,750 community professionals, including: social workers, law enforcement, attorneys, judges, mental health professionals, members of the pediatric medical community, university academia, school personnel, childcare providers, child advocates, and faith leaders, have participated in Summit-related events, learning from national and regional experts in the field of childhood success.

For 2023, the Summit on Children will explore “The Power of Prevention.” Speakers will address evidence-based strategies that have affected demonstrable results, and will discuss opportunities to scale those impacts here.

The keynote address will be provided by Dr. Dipesh Navasaria, a pediatrician and professor at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and Public Health. Navasaria is the current chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Early Childhood, and he is the founding medical director of Reach Out and Read Wisconsin.

Other presentations will include information about child success from leading state and national partners, highlights of local programs with excellent results, and a panel discussion amongst nonprofit board leaders who drove innovation within their respective organizations. As participants of the Summit, attendees will be encouraged to consider their role within our local “ecosystem,” and how we can each contribute to a healthier community for kids.

Immediately following the Summit, local parents and providers are invited to participate in a special event from 1:00-4:00 PM, which will provide direct opportunities for peer networking and resource sharing.
