The 9th Annual Band Director Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will honor Roderick Boyce for his outstanding contributions to the field of music education. The ceremony will feature a performance by the Tyler Community Band including a march lead by Mr. Boyce. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
Roderick Boyce is Director of Bands at Clarksville ISD in Clarksville, TX and an educator (in Texas) for 36 years. His bands made seven (7) appearances at the Texas State Marching Championships:
*Clarksville HS (2A) – 2nd place (2023)
*Clarksville HS (2A) – 3rd place (2022)
*Clarksville HS (2A) – 8th place (2021)
*Clarksville HS (2A) - State Champion (2017)
*Clarksville HS (2A) - 5th place (2015)
*Clarksville HS (1A, now Class 2A) - 4th place (2011)
*Cooper HS (2A, now Class 3A) - 5th place (2005)
*Liberty-Eylau HS (3A, now Class 4A) - Area C Marching Contest, 4th place (1998)
*Liberty-Eylau (4A, now Class 5A) - Area C Marching Contest, 7th place (1997)
His bands have consistently earned UIL Sweepstakes awards and also won numerous invitational contests in Texas, Arkansas and Florida. Mr. Boyce began his teaching career at Clarksville ISD in Clarksville, TX. He also taught (as Director of Bands) at Liberty-Eylau (where he taught with his mentor Robert Utsey), Tatum and Cooper ISD before returning to Clarksville in 2007.
Mr. Boyce is a native of Texarkana, TX and attended Liberty-Eylau High School. Upon graduation, he attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce) where he received his Bachelors of Music Education Degree. At East Texas State University, he studied saxophone with James Keene (director emeritus, University of Illinois at Urbana -Champaign). Mr. Boyce has been married to his wife Marlette for 35 years. Marlette is currently retired but was district PEIMS coordinator and Colorguard coordinator at Clarksville ISD and. His son (Roderick II) is Director of Bands at Terrell HS in Terrell, TX.
Mr. Boyce is a UIL Sponsor Excellence Award recipient (2017) and also a member of: Conn-Selmer Institute VIP, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Association of Texas Small School Bands, Texas Bandmasters Association, Four States Bandmasters Association, and also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. He was also named Clarksville ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year (2015, 2011), and Who's Who Among America's Teachers (1998, 1996).
