9. QFFM | Jury Panel

Der Begriff ‚queer‘ scheint nach wie vor viele Irritationen auszulösen. Nicht erst seit den 1990ern mit dem Aufkommen des „New Queer Cinema“ steht er für das Andersartige und Fehlerhafte, aber eben auch für Ideenreichtum, herausragende Ästhetik, politisches Handeln und Aktivismus. Letzteres wird aktuell von rechten Kräften verstärkt zu verhindern und zu reglementieren versucht. Was bedeutet also ‚queer‘ heute für uns, und wie zeigt sich dieses schöne Wort in der künstlerischen Praxis des Filmemachens, die unter anderem Fragen der Ästhetik, der Besetzung, der Produktionsbedingungen und der Inhalte mit einschließt?

Diskutiert wird mit den QFFM-Jurymitgliedern über die aktuelle (politische) Situation des queeren Filmmakings: Inwiefern würden sie ihre Praxis als queer bezeichnen? Und wo sehen sie noch Potenziale, um queeres Filmemachen für unsere Community zu ermöglichen?

The term ‚queer‘ continues to cause much confusion. Since the 1990s and the rise of ‚New Queer Cinema,‘ it has represented not just the unconventional but also creativity, exceptional aesthetics, political action, and activism. Recently, right-wing forces have intensified efforts to suppress and regulate these expressions. So, what does ‚queer‘ mean for us today, and how does this significant word manifest in the artistic practice of filmmaking? This involves addressing various facets such as aesthetics, casting choices, production conditions, and thematic content, each contributing to the rich tapestry of queer cinema.

We will discuss with the QFFM jury members the current (political) situation of queer filmmaking: To what extent do they describe their practice as queer? And where do they see potential to further enable queer filmmaking for our community?
