The Office of the Public Advocate Shane Harris is excited to announce the 8th Annual Shane Harris Community Christmas Day Breakfast & Gift Giveaway — San Diego County’s only Christmas morning celebration designed specifically for foster youth, unsheltered families, low-income households, and military families.❄️ What This Event Provides
This year, we will welcome over 500 families and more than 300 children with:
🎁 Up to two brand-new wrapped gifts for children registered
🚲 Bikes, scooters, and big surprise gifts for some kids
🍳 A free hot breakfast for the entire family
❄️ 15 tons of real snow, turning Christmas into a winter wonderland
🎨 Face painting, activities, and Christmas décor
❤️ A safe, welcoming home on Christmas morning
This beloved community event returns bigger than ever, offering a warm, joyful, and dignified Christmas morning experience for families who too often have nowhere to go on the holiday.
The Shane Harris Community Christmas Day Breakfast & Gift Giveaway began as a personal mission rooted in Shane Harris’s own childhood experience growing up in San Diego’s foster care system. After losing both of his parents at a young age, Harris spent many Christmases without stability, gifts, or a place that felt like home. Determined to ensure no child in San Diego faces the same loneliness, he created this annual Christmas morning event—now in its 8th year—which has grown into the only large-scale gathering on Christmas Day for foster youth, unsheltered families, military families, and low-income households. Today, the event serves more than 500 families each year, providing a warm hot breakfast, brand-new wrapped gifts, snow, activities, and a safe, welcoming space filled with dignity, joy, and community.
