Class Description
Intentionally held outside of a yoga studio, Kellie and Josiah are interested in expanding the embodied experience beyond yogi practitioners; rather, they see their union as an artistic intersection and an opportunity to invite other artists in as communal connection and shared energy through movement, meditation, and sound.

Kellie will guide a gentle yoga flow sequence, available to all levels, designed to both soothe and liven the nervous system, and cultivate presence. The practice will be loosely structured, inviting participants to pause on their mats at any time to listen, rest, meditate, and receive. Josiah will offer live improvisation, creating an immersive soundscape that will add to the tone of the practice and serve as a source of inspiration and grounding. The yoga practice will end in a long savasana, guiding participants to lay on their mats and receive the sound in communal rest.

Although the collaborative flow is designed for the individual experience practiced within the community, we also want to encourage participants to connect further, network, and continue sharing following the session. We hope you will join us in socializing and drinking kombucha from our wonderful hosts, Hans Kombucha!

The experience intends to be offered as a catalyst for inner exploration, a connection to one’s body, and a connection to the environment. We want to invite participants to let go of tension and distractions and to fully immerse themselves in the power of yoga and live music. We believe the vibrations of the morning can offer a transformative experience and a renewed sense of balance and harmony.

*All levels of yoga experience are welcome. This is also a disability friendly class. If you have specific accessibility requests, please send us a message: [email protected]

**You will be asked to sign a waiver of liability at the start of the class.

Artist Bios
Kellie St. Pierre (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and yoga instructor. She has been blending her worlds of somatic collections for much of her life, as movement of all kinds has always been the center. Kellie’s experience as a professional dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and educator both in academic and wellness circles, has given her a deep understanding and appreciation of body-mind connection and, furthermore, has revealed to her the power of interconnected synergy. Kellie advocates for yoga that expands knowledge around one’s body, creates an inner/outer dialogue and awareness, declutters the system, and offers tools to the practitioner that enable autonomy and choice. Kellie holds a B.F.A. in Dance from the University of California, Irvine, and an M.F.A. in Dance and Screendance from the University of Utah. She is a 250-hour certified yoga instructor of multiple forms and is a certified Sugarfoot Therapy Instructor for conditioning and injury prevention.

Josiah Pugmire, born on an Air Force base in Florida, and raised moving states and sometimes countries every few years, is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and movement accompanist. His desire to make a living playing drums led him to study music in Utah, where he went through the conventional steps of a music degree, developing useful talents and learning from great teachers but also creating an unhealthy relationship with himself and music. Perfectionism and mental paralysis forced a hold on pursuing music for a time.

After many vital healing experiences (shoutout to musicians Kenny Werner and Victor Wooten and the important books they've written and a big thank you former therapist, Tyler - Thank you!) and the beautifully fortunate job of being a university dance accompanist during a time of general confusion, he has gained a perspective on music that has allowed him to bask in the acceptance of any sound he happens to be experiencing.

His approach to music is now one of constant play and appreciation - spending time listening to the world and capturing any interesting sounds that show themselves and using those sounds to weave into his music practice, along with spending lots of time making sounds himself in his studio - always searching for whatever sound there is to appreciate. It is now his hope to be able to share sounds with others, and encourage acceptance and appreciation of whatever notes are happening and all the while accept every sound for what it is and what it gives and takes and where it takes us.
