This is for Newbies and Comedy Vets!
The class is built to get comedy newcomers ready to perform successfully, but what about if you've tried comedy before? This class is a great way to build up new material and add new tools to your comedy skill set!
In this course, aspiring comedians will master:
- The Fundamentals of Joke Structure
- Character Development
- Public Speaking
- Microphone Skills
- Auditioning
- & Everything You Need to Know to Dive Into Stand-Up!
Want more awesomeness? You'll be booked on a PROFESSIONAL SHOW!
Throughout the course, you will develop a tight 3-5 minutes designed to get you booked AND you'll perform in a PROFESSIONAL COMEDY SHOW headlined by comedians who've performed for outlets like HULU, HBO, and NETFLIX!
The Graduation Show tickets will be available to the public and the show will be hosted by the Palm Springs Cultural Center--it's a real show, folks, meaning drinks, a fantastic stage, and honest-to-goodness laughs!
Want a drier, yet more thorough, rundown of the course? Here it is:
The course begins with an exploration of the basics of comedy writing, including setups, punchlines, and comedic timing, and progresses to practice stage time each week. This helps students craft their unique voice and style and develop relatable and engaging comedic characters, incorporating their personality and life experiences into their material. Weekly exercises and group critiques foster a supportive environment, allowing participants to fine-tune their routines while gaining confidence in their comedic abilities.
Public speaking and microphone techniques will be integral parts of the program, equipping students with the tools to captivate and engage audiences. Through practice sessions, students will learn proper microphone handling, voice projection, and stage presence to ensure their material lands effectively.
The course culminates in a live showcase featuring working professional stand-up comedians, where participants perform a polished set in front of an audience and experience the thrill of live stand-up (and getting laughs!) This class is designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and empower students with skills that extend beyond the comedy stage--and, of course, be a comic!
