Rap icon Eminem's feature film acting debut had him taking home Oscar gold (Best Original Song, Lose Yourself) and some serious box office green in director Curtis Hanson's (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL) thrilling, unconventional and fresh take on the underdog's-gonna-triumph drama, 8 MILE. The setting is Detroit, 1995: The 'Motor City' is divided by 8 Mile, a road that splits the town in half along racial lines. A young white rapper, Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith Jr., summons strength within himself to cross over these arbitrary boundaries to fulfill his dream of success - as a rapper in the world of hip hop music. Can he do it - or is he going to choke...? Featuring an all-star supporting cast of heavy-hitters including Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy, Mekhi Phifer, Taryn Manning, and Michael Shannon.
"In 8 MILE, his film debut as aspiring rapper Jimmy Smith Jr., Eminem is on fire. It's too soon to tell if he can really act. But Eminem holds the camera by natural right. His screen presence is electric. His sulk — hooded eyes that suddenly spark with danger — has an intensity to rival James Dean's. And he reads lines with an offbeat freshness that makes his talk and his rap sound interchangeable... Just as it should be." (Rolling Stone)
"Since his ascension to pop-culture royalty, Eminem has transformed the messy emotions of his life into musical black comedy. In 8 Mile, that life becomes an equally riveting drama." (AV Club)

8 MILE (Curtis Hanson, 2002 / 110 mins / 18A) The people of Detroit know 8 Mile as the city limit, a border, a boundary. It is also a psychological dividing line that separates Jimmy Smith Jr. (Eminem) from where and who he wants to be. A provocative fictional examination of a critical week in Jimmy's life.
