When VIVID Sydney comes knocking you know you have to pull out the big guns.
On Saturday 28th May, CLUB Ctrl presents an interstate b2b marathon from the gods, featuring 5 hours of power from Melbourne’s Close Counters alongside Brisbane’s Golden Vessel. It’s like the powerhouse matchup you never knew you needed until now. It’s like Mulder and Sculley or Walter White and Jesse Pinkman… but without the UFO’s and the meth labs.
Close Counters and Golden Vessel are both widely admired for their impeccable taste and boundary pushing sounds. Close Counters are on a red-hot-run right now fresh from a glowing performance at Let Them Eat Cake and ahead of their prime-time slot at Strawberry Fields. Over the last few years our ears have been treated to a number of dazzling releases including the ‘FLUX’ or ‘REFRACTIONS’ EP’s and of course their mesmerising debut LP ‘SOULACOASTA’.
Golden Vessel’s own back catalogue is blissfully as impressive with LP’s ‘Colt’ and ‘Slowshine’ and key singles ‘Hesitate’, ‘littlebitwild’ (w/ Mallrat), ‘Underneath’ (w/ Young Franco) and last year’s 10-minute masterpiece ‘getforward’. Golden Vessel is an absolute streaming-machine and just released ‘eee’ the first new single from his forthcoming album.
The two artists are best of buddies on and off the stage, and we are mentally preparing ourselves for this extra special extended set on Club 77’s mega new sound rig. The iconic basement has witnessed some outrageous sights over the years and we have a sneaky feeling this genre-defying session will live long in the memory. Support on the night comes from the magnificent DJ Macaroni to set the early pace.
Being a VIVID endorsed event — VJ, visual artist and forward-facing creative force Passive Kneeling (aka Tom Vanderzeil) is set to turn Club 77 upside down and inside out with a mind-boggling display of complex fractals and abrasive abstract imagery.
