As Colorado celebrates its 150th anniversary and America commemorates its 250th, the 719 Challenge returns for its 11th year—now featuring both an endurance cycling fondo and an exciting 10K trail run.
Formerly known as the iconic 719 Ride, the 719 Challenge is anchored around Colorado Springs' iconic climbs, featuring breathtaking scenery and challenging climbs through the foothills of the Pikes Peak region.
The 719 Challenge is the Official Road Cycling Event and Official 10K Run of the Rocky Mountain State Games, with both events sharing a central start and finish in Colorado Springs, creating a unique gathering place for endurance athletes of all levels.
Cyclists will experience Colorado Springs' premier climbing challenge with timed KOM/QOM segments, Gran Fondo National Series qualification, and Rocky Mountain State Games competition. Runners will tackle a scenic mixed-surface 10K featuring paved paths and smooth crushed-gravel trails through some of the area's best landscapes on a mosty flat and PR-worthy closed to traffic course.
The cycling format lets riders customize their own challenge by choosing one, two, or three laps:
- Piccolo: ~20 miles
- Medio: ~40 miles
- Gran: 60+ miles
Each lap includes timed KOM/QOM (King/Queen of the Mountain) segments on an updated course featuring favorite climbs along with new challenges for 2026. Whether you're racing for the podium or simply testing yourself, the format offers something for every ability level while allowing riders to regroup and connect between timed segments.
The cycling event is once again part of the prestigious SENA Gran Fondo National Series, serving as a qualifying event for the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships in Frederick, Maryland, this September. Both cyclists and runners can also compete for Rocky Mountain State Games honors.
The 10K course covers 6.2 miles of paved and smooth crushed-gravel trails, delivering a fun and challenging experience for runners of all abilities.
