This happens to also fall on the local merchant-organized First Friday and many local businesses and restaurants will be staying open later this evening with exclusive in-store specials or highlighting new fall arrivals and food & drink menu specials at participating restaurants. Over 75 local downtown merchants will be displaying glowing Jack-O’-Lanterns in their windows or outside their businesses for families to stroll around town and vote on their favorites in five different categories.
1) Most Creative Display
2) Most Spooky Display
3) Best Group (3 or more Jack-O’-Lanterns)
4) Most Photogenic/Selfies Taken at Display
5) Geneva Themed Display
6) Most Interactive Display
7) Judges’ Pick
A digital interactive map has been created with a QR code for guests to easily scan on their phones to see all the participating local merchants.
On the Kane County Courthouse front lawn on the corner of James and Third Street, there will be a fall-themed ‘Photo Op’ area display that evening for locals & families to have their photos taken.
Patty Donahue the owner of Image Awards, Engraving & Creative Keepsakes, Inc., has generously helped me as a sponsor this year by creating the event trophies for the winning Jack-O-Lantern businesses and she made the special event mug. This mug is available for purchase directly from Patty but the created ceramic mugs were used for social media giveaways to drum up excitement on Facebook and Instagram.
Kristen Cornelio the Event Organizer will be creating the photo-op area for the community to enjoy for one night. Guests can cast their votes for free on their phones by scanning the voting QR codes that will be displayed by the participating Jack-O’-Lanterns at local businesses.
This evening is intended to be a community-driven, family-friendly Self-Guided Jack-O’-Lantern Walk. Many merchants will be decorating their storefront windows to create a festive fall atmosphere for locals to enjoy while browsing the downtown shops & restaurants. Many participating local businesses will be showcasing new shop arrivals and restaurants will be highlighting fall menu items. Children are encouraged to dress up this evening.
