6th Annual HoneyBee Nut Festival - Oct. 11, 2026 from 10 AM to 5 PM
How does roasting chestnuts 🌰 and warming freshly-pressed apple 🍎 cider on an open fire 🔥 sound to you? Please join us on Oct. 11 at the 6th Annual HoneyBee Nut Festival at 5700 Scio Church Rd., Ann Arbor from 10 AM to 5 PM. You can learn about paw paws, native bee pollinators, discover how raptors are a part of a farm’s ecology, process black walnuts, explore the world of foraging on a nature hike, listen to nut experts tell us how nut trees fit into our agroecology, and even carve a pumpkin 🎃. Sunday’s Nut Festival’s schedule is below. Come for part or all of it. Hot cider, hot tea, coffee, and snacks will be provided. All ages are welcome to this free, fun, outdoors event.
SCHEDULE
🌰10:00 AM Tea with the Queen: 🐝
Enjoy a relaxing tea with Shawn Severance, Washington County Parks naturalist (https://www.washtenaw.org/nature-activities), as we explore the plants that bumblebee queens depend on during their early season foraging. We’ll learn how these same plants can be used medicinally to create gentle, healing teas for people, connecting the resilience of pollinators with our own well‑being.
🌰11 AM A Conversation with Mike Levine from Nature and Nurture Seeds (https://natureandnurtureseeds.com/) on Perennial Polyculture Agroecology.
🌰12 PM Networking with new and experienced nut growers, warming by a bonfire, roasting nuts, snacks, and pressing apples for apple cider samples.
🌰1:00 PM Keylines, Hugel Mounds, and their Contributions to Regenerative Agriculture:
Join Mike Appel of Appel Environmental Design (https://www.appelenvironmental.com/) for a walking tour of existing ecological structures at HoneyBee. This will be a hands on tour to evaluate and understand the building up and breaking down of organic matter on these mounds of wood debris.
🌰2:00 PM Black Walnut Processing with walnut enthusiasts, Billy & Zyla Sullivan, who will share a demonstration of methods for dehulling, curing, cracking and shelling black walnuts, one of our finest Midwestern delicacies.
🌰3:00 PM Michigan Birds of Prey:
A special guest this year will be a visit from the Michigan Avian Experience (https://www.miavianexperience.org/) with live raptors and learn how they interact with our farms.
🌰4:00 PM Nature Discovery Walk with Will Forage for Food (https://willforageforfood.com/) founder, Rachel Mifsud.
🌰5 PM - Thanks for coming!
