About this Event

Join us at the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) at the University of Surrey in Guildford, for the sixth edition of the 6GIC SeLected Advanced TopICs WorKshop Series (6GIC-CLICK)

This exciting event will bring together experts and enthusiasts from the field of Non-Terrestrial Networks, to discuss the latest advancements and innovations.

The demand for mobility, ubiquitous coverage and resilience has driven communications in 5G and 6G to include NTN. The latter includes multi orbit satellites, High Altitude Platforms (HAPs) and Aerial devices in the lower troposphere. In 5G and 5G advanced we are already seeing integrated service delivery via cellular and satellite direct to commercial mobile phones heralding a convergence of these sectors. This is being enabled by new 3GPP NTN 5G standards helping to create the new ecosystem. The 5G advanced era will herald large constellations of LEO satellites with on board processing including network functions previously only terrestrial located but now offering direct phone to phone connections without the need for terrestrial infrastructure. As we now move into the period of defining a completely new and unified 6G system, NTN will play a key role in proving coverage and resilience via an interconnected 3D space network converged with terrestrial networks.

Event Details:

  • Date: Wednesday 2 October 2024
  • Registration: Opens at 0900
  • Time: 0930 - 1730
  • Location: Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) University of Surrey, Guildford, GU2 7XH, UK

Why Attend?

Research towards NTN in 6G has already commenced and in this workshop we will cover some of the key challenges;

-Open networking architectures to accommodate NTN mobility

-Unified Air Interfaces converging terrestrial and NTN requirements

-AI and ML to manage increased complexity and interference

-Integration of sensing and communications

-Improved timing and positioning integrated with communications

-Satellite antennas and on board processing

These and other technologies will contribute to the 6G standards discussion which commence in 2025 and will form the basis for 6G specifications and ultimate roll out in 2030.

Keynote Speakers:

Professor Alessandro Vanelli Coralli, University of Bologna, Italy

Professor Petar Popovski, University of Aalborg, Denmark

Dr Thomas Heyn, Fraunhofer IIS, Germany

Professor Yuanjie Li, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China

Dr Stefan Draskoci, Aalyria, London, UK

We kindly ask for your support in spreading the word about this opportunity within your networks. By doing so, we can collectively amplify the impact of the 6GIC-CLICK workshop series and contribute to shaping the future landscape of communication networks.
