The world is ready to pick up where we left off in 2019, and you can count on Virginia City’s bizarre yet wildly entertaining annual International Camel & Ostrich Races to return in 2021. The first International Camel & Ostrich Races took place in historic Virginia City, Nevada in 1959 and the tradition continues Sept. 10 – 12, 2021 with jockeys vying for the title and the ultimate bragging rights over the three-day event. This must-attend and family-friendly event features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering crowds. Attendees can enjoy watching the hilarious camel, zebra and ostrich races, on-site treats as well as camel rides between races for that once-in-a-lifetime photo op.
Races take place Friday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. for Hot Camel Nights, Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m and Sunday, Sept. 12 at 12 p.m.
General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for kids under 12 and seniors. Premium shaded tickets are $25. A VIP experience will be available, details to be released in the coming weeks. The event takes place at the Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds.
