This six-week series runs Saturdays 10/19-11/23 from 10:30am-12:00pm.“Somatic” might be a term you are hearing a lot about these days. But what does it mean? Why are we hearing so much about “somatic yoga’ and “somatic movement” or maybe even, “somatic therapy”? Do you have questions, or do you feel like you kind of get it but aren’t sure?
Regardless of where you are on your personal healing journey, this 6-week series will help you to better understand what somatic means, why it is becoming such a big part of the therapeutic world, and how it might assist you on your own journey. This beautiful and fully accessible tool, lives in your own body. The goal of this 6-week course is to tap into that tool and discover your own deeply rooted healing capabilities.
Each 90-minute session will begin with an introduction to a new term and/or movement, with opportunity to explore this information in detail and ask questions. Each session will include a little bit of “homework” for you to work on until the next class. During each class, students will be given time to ask questions and try out different body-mind focused tools to assist with self-discovery. You’ll also be given some self-assessment tools to find a better, deeper understanding of your own body.
Each student will receive:
-Their own copy of “Waking the Tiger” by Peter A. Levine.
-A personal journal for note taking, journaling prompts, and assignments.
-Access to props for use during class.
-An offering of tea/water and a light snack during each session.
Each class will close with a 15 to 20-minute Savasana & Sound Healing or Guided Meditation.
Questions we will explore.
-What does somatic mean and why/how does it help with healing trauma?
-How is it related to me and my body?
-What if I don’t really know if I have trauma? Can it still help me?
-How can somatic movement help me better tend to my body-mind relationship?
-What tools are available to me in somatic practice?
As your host, Dejah will strive to ensure comfort and clarity. She has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and her journey, like so many others, has been long and ever changing. She found her “yoga-home” with trauma-minded practices after obtaining her 200-hr Trauma Aware Certification in 2021. In addition, she is certified in Pranayama practices and Restorative Yoga.
Cost to register for the 6-week series is $189.
