About this Event

Bring your grief. Bring your hope. Bring the name of someone you miss, or simply bring your heart. We'll meet you there.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we invite you to gather with us at San Francisco City Hall—not because we have all the answers, but because no one should carry grief alone.

As the sun sets, we’ll light candles, speak the names of those we’ve lost, share stories of courage and hope, and remember that every life mattered. Every life still matters.

Whether you are grieving someone you love, supporting someone in recovery, working on the front lines, or simply believe that compassion belongs at the center of every community, there is a place for you here.

Throughout the evening you’ll experience:

  • A heartfelt memorial ceremony
  • Inspiring speakers and personal stories
  • A community candlelight and luminary vigil
  • Music and moments of quiet reflection
  • Resources for prevention, treatment, recovery, and grief support
  • Opportunities to connect with others who understand both heartbreak and hope

We believe remembering is an act of love.

We believe stigma has no place where compassion lives.

And we believe that when hundreds of lights shine together, they remind us that even in our darkest moments, none of us is meant to walk alone.

Join us as we honor those we’ve lost, support those still fighting, and shine A Light for Every Life.

This event is free and open to all.
