57th Annual Dinner: Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission
About this Event
Join us on Thursday, October 22, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM for our 57th Annual Dinner at One Center Plaza in downtown Roanoke (312 2nd St SW).
The evening will begin with a social hour featuring hors d’oeuvres and entertainment, followed by an elegant catered dinner and a keynote address.
This year, we're celebrating 250 years of America by highlighting the rich history of our region.
We are thrilled to welcome Jeffrey C. Vick as our keynote speaker. He is a Professor of Practice in the School of Education, Government, and Society at Roanoke College and a retired diplomat of the United States Foreign Service.
Entertainment will be provided by singer and guitarist Keith Goggin. As one listener shared, “Keith is well known in Southwest Virginia as one of the slickest pickers around and a pretty gifted songwriter as well.”
Our annual event unites commission members, partners, and our staff to celebrate achievements and progress made through regional cooperation and collaboration across localities in the spirit of public service.
RVARC is comprised of elected officials and citizens who focus on regional priorities such as economic growth, transportation, environmental resiliency, outdoor recreation, and legislative action. Learn more at .

Jeffrey C. Vick is a Professor of Practice in the School of Education, Government, and Society at Roanoke College. He teaches global politics and international relations. He is a board member of the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke and Roanoke Valley Sister Cities, inc. Jeff recently retired from the United States Foreign Service after 35 years of service as a diplomat and previously as an Army Officer (Corps of Engineers). He served in ten countries - reporting on political and economic developments, managing border security efforts, and conducting Army engineering operations. In addition to his foreign postings, Jeff recently served on Capitol Hill as a congressional liaison as well as in multilateral arms control at the Department of State. Jeff earned his MS in National Security Strategy at the National Defense University and a BA from Texas Tech University. He speaks Spanish, Russian, and Polish.
Keith Goggin started playing guitar at the age of five and played his first paying gig at twelve. He was a voice major in college and has played in numerous bands all over the country. Keith has been working both on tours and in the studio on and off with California-based songwriter Christie McCarthy for nearly 30 years. Keith has also worked as a guitarist in the studio with many artists.
Keith’s main influences are all over the musical map, from Eric Clapton to Doc Watson to Michael Hedges to James McMurtry to Mark Knopfler and most points in between. Keith’s shows typically cover quite a few genres, and usually contain a surprise or two. As one listener put it, “Keith is well known in both Houston, TX and Southwest Virginia as one of the slickest pickers around and a pretty gifted song-writer as well.” No matter whether it’s a solo show or a band gig, we’re gonna have us a time!
