Contrary to popular belief, the terms “strengthen” and “stretch” are not opposites. In other words, muscular tension is not offset through stretching, but through relaxation. Because the brain and nervous system influence our ability to let go and relax, Yoga teachers can help their students relax their bodies by guiding them through mental relaxation, otherwise known as non-sleep deep rest or Yoga Nidra.
With relaxation comes a whole host of mental and physiological benefits:
-reduced stress and anxiety
-improved memory, clarity and focus
-decreased blood pressure
-chronic pain relief
-improved immune health, digestion, elimination
-stronger cardiovascular system
Alicia Cheung (Samdhana Yoga) is delighted to offer you a newly revised Therapeutic Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Teacher Training (50 hours) where we will explore the nervous system, subtle body and the art of relaxation through the lens of both a restorative Yin Yoga practice and conscious relaxation, Yoga Nidra. Through these two modalities, students can take their practice (and teaching) to a place of balance by understanding how the brain and nervous system are inherently responsible for our ability to stretch AND relax.
Be prepared to study neuroscience, explore and enjoy the basic postures of Yin Yoga, use of props and the deeply transformational benefits of Yoga Nidra.
Course content includes:
-Daily practice of meditation, mindfulness techniques, Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga
-Integral and functional anatomy
-Anatomy of the breath, diaphragm-releasing techniques, pranayama
-Latest, evidence-based research on pain science, neurobiology, and fascial health
-Exploration of the 24 basic postures of yin yoga including use of props, modifications and variations
-Theory and practice of Yoga Nidra
-Teaching methodology and sequencing principles
-Introduction to Thomas Myers’ muscle meridians
-Lab and practice teaching
Upon completion, you will be qualified to teach Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra, either separately or in combination.
Prerequisites: To receive continuing education credits, you must be 200 hour certified through Yoga Alliance. Students who are not certified can still attend and will receive a certificate of completion.
