5 Week Fan Flow Arts Journey with the Elements

Let's get you flowing comfortably and powerfully with your fans!

This course will take you through the five elements of fan flow to build your understanding and connectivity with the fans, giving you a wealth of tricks to include in your freestyle movements, and some potent spiritual practices to relax the body, mind, and wrists to allow the moves to be integrated.

Each class will begin with some short spiritual practices and stretches to support the body in learning new flow tricks. These can include meditations, breathwork, energy circlation practices, partner exercises, and more. Following this you'll receive practical instuction for a variety of tricks centered around each week's theme.

In-class participants each week will receive a google drive bank of the moves we covered in class that week. Can't make a class? Add a "Google drive videos ONLY" option at the checkout to see what we learned that week.

(4:30 - 5:30) June 5th (Week 1) - The basics! Back to the Earth we must connect with the structure, weight, and geometry of our fans. Static grips, dynamic grips, palms in, palms out, lets break it all down. We'll explore planes with the fans and take away a wealth of fan tricks that anybody can do with a static grip.

(5:00pm - 6:00pm) June 12th (Week 2) - Spins ~ Lets make our flowing fluid and connect with water in this class. Relaxing the hand and letting the fan spin. Learn in-spins anti-spins, and a variety of tricks to start to blend our dance with our static grip tricks. We'll also cover basic flowers in this class!

(5:00pm - 6:00pm) June 19th (Week 3) - Air... It's time for lift off with the fans. The trick to all weaves is to let the fan SWING. We'll be breaking down 3 different types of weaves and spending a good portion of class warming up our wrists and releasing resistence.

(5:00 - 6:00pm) June 26th (Week 4) - FIRE! Lets go baby it's time to DANCE! We'll be taking everything we've learned so far in class and adding our own personal ZEST to make it look engaging and dynamic (and less like we're focussing on trying to do a trick ;) We'll also talk about fire as a sacred tool that must be treated with respect and going over basic fire safety precautions.

(8:30 - 10:30pm) July 3rd at Trout Lake - FULL MOON FIRE CEREMONY AND DANCE* ~ Let us experience the MAGIC of fire alchemy in conjugation with the water spirit at the beautiful Trout Lake. Join in circle through the setting of intentions, meditations, energy circulation, songs, and movement. Firespinning at this event is optional. *Participants who wish to firespin must attend Week 4 (June 26th) and sign a liability release form.

Weeks 1 - 4 are hosted at Passion & Performance Studio Vancouver (55 W 8th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1M8)

Week 5 - Full Moon Ceremony and Dance hosted at Trout Lake, exact location TBD.

~ About the facilitator ~

Elemental Momentum is a movement created by Siren of the Elements designed to help you reach your fullest spiritual potential through connections and movements with the elements. She's specialized in fan flow for the last three years and has performed in countless cabaret shows, parades, conventions, and private parties. She's making her festival debut this summer with her upcoming performance at Bass Coast Arts and Music Festival. She's informally been instructing flow arts for the last two years and stepped into a formal instructor role this spring.

Outside of the performance world she's a talented Ecstatic dance DJ, event facilitator, and kids nature school & yoga/art/dance instructor. She draws from the five elements to fuel her own personal growth and to create a container where you can really explore yourself, come into balance within yourself, and blossom into the best version of yourself.
