5 Week Beginner Plus/ Useful Items Sewing Workshop is a casual, hands-on sewing class for students and beginners.
What to Expect
Learn in person over five weeks in this beginner-level workshop. At the end of the five weeks, you’ll take home the items you make.

Introduction - Health & Safety around the workshop

Info: Quick survey and tour of the workshop, how the workshop should be navigated to keep you and everyone else safe. The do's and the don'ts, and meeting the new people you'll be sewing with along the way.

Measuring Task
Info: You will learn how to take your own measurements and someone elses, in order for you to translate it to the commercial sewing pattern we will use. This will help you to find the correct size you will need to make.

Tracing out a sewing pattern
Info: You will learn how to trace a sewing pattern template, that we will use in the coming weeks to build and construct your garment.

Week 2

Info: Learn how to understand and read commercial sewing patterns all the sewing terminology and jargon simplified

Info: Fundamental basics will put you in good stead for any project you take on

Week 3 - Understanding the anatomy of the sewing machine
Host: Jade
Info: Learn all the functions of a sewing machine and get active, create samples, practise makes better. Learn how to thread a bobbin, a machine , change a needle, Learn about different presser feet. Learning the fundamentals are essential.

Laying Fabric, Pinning & Cutting
Host: Jade
Info: Learn all about the grain of the fabric how to apply the symbols from the pattern to the garment you are making. Preparation is key.

Week 4 - Putting the pieces together
Info: Learn the basics of piecing your garment together, baste stitch. Where it all starts coming together. Using the sewing machine to sew sections together and form the garment.
