The 5 Pillars of Hip Hop PopUps is an event series that has taken place during AHA! from May through September starting in 2019. Created In partnership with the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, the series takes the elements of Hip Hop (MC, DJ, Graffiti, Breaking, Knowledge) and places them in culturally significant locations.
These family friendly events teach the public about the history of Hip Hop culture through live music, visual art creation and dance demonstrations featuring professional and youth artists as well as interactive activities and community resources.
This program is supported in part by the Wicked Cool Places grant funded by the City of New Bedford, through American Rescue Plan awards, and its Arts, Culture and Tourism Fund, and is facilitated by New Bedford Creative at the NBEDC.
