Join the RCNA on the morning of July 4th for our annual Independence Day neighborhood car parade!
Decorate your cars in their patriotic finest and drive in the parade, or line the route and cheer on the procession from the sidewalks near your home or at the park. As always, our local law enforcement officers will join us along the route. If you belong to a neighborhood youth/school group, talk to your leaders about participating. We’d love to see you out there!
*Decorations*
Please keep vehicle decorations to the patriotic theme; red, white, and blue, USA flags, stars, etc. This parade is for the enjoyment of all of the neighborhood and is family friendly. Please be respectful of that and be thoughtful in your decorating choices. No partisan politics are permitted, or you will be asked to leave the parade. No campaigning, except for local candidates representing themselves. Prior permission for this exception is required. No changes to your décor once the parade is underway are permitted.
*Time and Line Up*
(Parade maps can be found in the event comments.) Cars should start lining up around 9:30 am, and the parade will begin promptly at 10am. When the parade begins, please allow our first responder vehicles to pull out, followed by our invited organized groups. The rest of the line (neighbors, local business vehicles, etc.) will then be signaled to fold in behind them.
*The Route*
(Parade maps can be found in the event comments.) The fire department has requested that all drivers pay attention and stay close together, with no stopping at stop signs to prevent confusion to others driving in the area.
Leaving Rattan Park, we will head down Tamayo towards Parmer, turn left on Osborne, turn left on Avella, turn left on Luling, turn right on Kiana, turn right on Amasia, turn left on Humphrey, turn right on Elkhorn, turn left on Pheasant Rock, turn left on Marimba, turn right on Grovedale, then turn right onto Tamayo.
We’ll then cross over the Tamayo bridge and turn left onto Dallas. We will head down Dallas towards Parmer, turn right on Amarillo, turn left on Corpus Christi, turn left on Kerrville, turn left onto Greybull where Kerrville ends, turn right on Dallas, turn right onto Tamayo then proceed back towards the park to conclude the parade.
*Decorating Contest*
We will award medals for the best decorated vehicles! If you would like to participate in the decorating contest, return to the starting area of the parade once you finish the route. We can’t wait to see y’all out there!
*Patriotic Concert*
We are so lucky to once again have the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble orchestra perform a concert of patriotic music (think fireworks music) to celebrate the 4th of July! The show begins at 6:30 pm at the Grand Pavilion in Rattan Creek Park, and should be finished in time for folks to go enjoy fireworks. Bring your chair or blanket and celebrate with your neighbors. Canopies or pop up tents are welcome at the periphery of the event, just make sure not to block the stage so everyone can enjoy the performance. Happy Independence Day neighbors!
