The International Forum on Sustainability Studies (IFSS) 2026 aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, civil society organizations, community leaders, and development partners to exchange knowledge, research, and innovative practices on sustainability transitions. Anchored on the principle of inclusivity, the forum highlights the need for collaborative and participatory approaches in addressing interconnected social, economic, and environmental challenges.
As communities worldwide continue to face the impacts of climate change, inequality, economic uncertainty, displacement, and environmental degradation, there is a growing need to strengthen inclusivity and resilience through sustainable and people-centered development pathways. IFSS 2026 seeks to foreground the role of communities, indigenous peoples, local institutions, social enterprises, academic institutions, and public-private partnerships in co-creating solutions that promote social equity, sustainable livelihoods, ecological integrity, and resilient destinations.
Used as an aspirational call in the theme, “sumlag”, a Kapampangan word associated with rising or shining, reflects and calls for a shared aspiration to build inclusive, resilient, and sustainable futures for communities, livelihoods, and destinations.
The forum will emphasize the triple bottom line of sustainability—social inclusion, economic viability, and environmental stewardship—while fostering dialogue on transformative practices, policies, technologies, and governance mechanisms that contribute to sustainable futures.
