About this Event
South Carolina’s economy has been remarkably resilient, despite headwinds from rising prices and high interest rates. However, the Palmetto State’s economic momentum may be waning.
The labor market is showing signs of cooling, with a slowdown in both wage growth and new job creation. Both the U.S. and S.C. unemployment rates have ticked upwards, generating a renewed concern about a looming recession. The stock market is gyrating.
Compounding this uncertainty is the upcoming U.S. presidential election, which could lead to major changes in the economy, including the possibility of new tax and tariff policies in 2025.
The 44th Annual USC Economic Outlook Conference will address these concerns and tackle the important questions at the top of everyone’s minds:
• Is the economy headed for a recession? If so, how severe would it be in South Carolina?
• How does the outcome of the U.S. presidential election impact the prospects for economic growth in 2025?
• What is the outlook for the financial markets?
• How many times will Federal Reserve cut interest rates?
• Will housing affordability in South Carolina improve after the multi-year surge in statewide housing prices that took place following the onset of the pandemic in 2020?
The event will be interactive and will include opportunities for Q&A.
