In 1982 several Abilene businessmen became aware of the need that existed at the Abilene Boys Ranch. Since most of these "Good Ole Boys" were chili cookers, it was decided that the way to raise money would be to have a chili cookoff. The Directors and Volunteers are proud to help the ranch by sponsoring the Chili Super Bowl annually on Labor Day weekend in beautiful Buffalo Gap, TX. Up to 100 of chili, chicken rib, brisket, beans, chef choice and dessert cooking teams from all over the state come to compete for prize money in excess of over $7500. All cash money is donated by local merchants. Some activities include several raffles, dancing under the stars on Saturday night. There are food booths, vendors, homemade ice cream and don't forget homemade chili cooked by The Dyess We Care Team and volunteers in The Ben Richey Boys Ranch and Family Program World's Largest Chili Pot.. You could even try some of the cooking team's food by purchasing people's choice tickets at the front gate(1100-330 on Saturday and 1100-230 on Sunday) and also there is a LIVE AUCTION on Saturday at 330pm.....We are proud to say the Chili Super Bowl has been able to present over 2 Million dollars to the ranch over the years.. Any questions contact the Ben Richey Boys Ranch at 325-692-2500 or GT Ward at 325-669-6200/325-692-5765
