Founded in 1985 by Rose Chung at the Asian Arts Festival in Santa Clara, California, the Miss Asian Global Pageant was a response to the underrepresentation of Asian women in mainstream pageantry and Hollywood. Chung emphasized, “true representation goes beyond visibility; it’s about empowerment. It’s about proclaiming that Asian women deserve the spotlight.” The pageant set out to challenge stereotypes, break barriers, and champion the belief that beauty transcends cultural boundaries. Its evolution from Miss Asian California (1985) to Miss Asian America (1991) and ultimately to Miss Asian Global (2012) marked a significant stride toward greater inclusivity.
Today, the Miss Asian Global Pageant remains a crucial force for representation, providing Asian women a platform to be seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are. As the longest-standing Asian pageant in the U.S., it serves as a reminder to the world that every woman, regardless of her background, deserves acknowledgment and value. This journey is more than just a crown; it’s about rewriting the narrative of beauty and self-worth.
In 2014, the Asian America Foundation (AAF) was introduced as a dynamic nonprofit organization devoted to uplifting exceptional Asian women. That same year, the Imagine Talks leadership conference was launched—an initiative by AAF to create a new space to showcase prominent Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voices and amplify transformative ideas. Together with the pageant, Imagine Talks is paving the way for a future where young Asian women will step forward in the world with greater pride and confidence.
Delegates will compete for the title of Miss Asian Global while displaying their rich cultural heritage in this colorful production. The categories of competition are Ethnic Costume, Swimsuit, Evening Gown, Talent, and Platform Speech Presentation. The Pageant provides scholarships, mentorship, and networking opportunities for young Asian women who are leaders in their community and profession.
