The Medieval Military Art of the German Longsword of the late Lichtenauer Tradition and it s ramifications.
We would be exploring the multiple works of Joachim Meyer and Paulus Hector Mair among others. There is an over abundance of historical source material for Longsword. And a large amount of these are attributed to Germanic authorship.

We would be covering fundamentals, basic footwork , basic handwork & swordwork ,structure, calisthenics, strategy and core values and methodology.
***If you are new to class contact the instructor first for further instructions. ***
Bring comfortable sport clothes appropriate to the weather conditions(be smart), comfortable sport footwear .
Bring your own water/sport drink and a towel as well as any other equipment approved by 417 HEMA.
We would be observing social distancing and sanitary measures at all times. Smoking/vaping is not allowed(no exceptions)on the grounds , nor around them. Individuals under the obvious influence of illegal substances or inebriated would be asked to vacate the premises.

Joachim Meyer (ca. 1537–1571) was a self-described Freifechter (literally, Free Fencer) living in the then Free Imperial City of Strasbourg in the 16th century and the author of a fechtbuch Gründtliche Beschreibung der Kunst des Fechtens (in English, Thorough Descriptions of the Art of Fencing) first published in 1570.
Paulus Hector Mair (1517–1579) was a German civil servant fencing master from Augsburg. He collected Fechtbücher and undertook to compile all knowledge of the art of fencing in a compendium surpassing all earlier books. For this, he engaged the painter Jörg Breu the Younger, as well as two experienced fencers, whom he charged with perfecting the techniques before they were painted. The project was very costly, taking a full four years, and according to Mair, consumed most of his family's income and property. Three versions of his compilation, and one later, less extensive manuscript, have been preserved.
Johannes Liechtenauer (also Lichtnauer, Hans Lichtenawer) was a German fencing master who had a great level of influence on the German fencing tradition in the 14th century.
