We are thrilled to bring back this special seminar after its great success! Due to popular demand, we are offering a new edition—this time in a 4-class format, with fresh insights and two additional orchestras to explore.
What to Expect:
Each class will be divided into two parts:
1. Individual Practice – Focus on exercises to refine your perception of rhythm and deepen your musical expression.
2. Partner Work – Apply these insights in guided partner exercises to refine your musical interpretation and connection with both the music and your dance partner. Additionally, you will learn two choreographic sequences designed to be applied to a carefully selected song from each orchestra—pieces commonly played in milongas.
Throughout the seminar, we will study the 4 important tango orchestras ( Pugliese, Troilo, Fresedo, Tanturi) analyzing some of their greatest hits. We will learn to identify the rhythmic nuances that characterize each one, enriching your performance on the dance floor.
What we will learn
1. Marcato in 4: rhythmic pattern where each beat in a 4/4 measure is emphasized equally
2. Marcato in 2: This pattern emphasizes the 1st and 3th beat in a 4/4 measure
3. Melodic Bridge: It connects two different parts, usually the verse and the chorus. It serves to provide contrast and variety, introducing new melodies
4. Syncopation: This is the placement of rhythmic accents on beats or parts of beats where they wouldn't normally occur, creating a sense of surprise and off-beat rhythm.
5. 3-3-2 ( Also known as the tresillo rhythm): it creates a distinctive syncopated feel, usually you will hear it in Pugliese, Troilo, and Piazzola
6. Legato: refers to playing notes smoothly and connectedly, with no perceptible gaps between them.
7. Pausas: These pauses can add dramatic effect and help to structure the rhythm
