4-Day Shoe Making Course: CLASSIC PUMP

Making shoes by hand has become somewhat archaic and it is time for this knowledge to come back. I am glad to now offer an intensive 4-day shoe making course.

Over the 24-hour footwear course you will learn the skills and techniques required for shoe making.

Note that times are just an indication for the first day of the course you would book. Final scheddule will be discussed with you after your booking is confirmed.

Course content

1. CLASSIC PUMP - theory, patternmaking

An introductory theory part where I teach everything you need to know before getting started making your own creations.

You will go through the anatomy of a shoe, get familiar with the components, test tools and equipment, practice a few fundamental shoe-making skills, overview the materials and get the guidance to proceed further on your journey of shoemaking.

After theory we dive into a practical skill where you learn how to make patterns for a classic pump, translating your design idea on a shoe last.

2. CLASSIC PUMP- cutting and sewing

A day dedicated to a practical skill where you finish all patterns (in addition to the master pattern) and will be cutting and sewing the upper + prepare everything for the lasting. Some of the techniques that you learn would be sewing, skiving, putting pieces together, applying different finishes for the top line.

3. CLASSIC PUMP - Lasting

Within the 3rd day you learn how to assemble a classic pump. You will traditionally hand last, sand, attach an outsole and a heel.

4. CLASSIC PUMP - lasting and finishing

We finish lasting: remove the last (as the shoe has to take the shape of the last over night ), secure the heel, insert the insole, finish and polish.
