For those interested in whats new out there then this mini festival on top of the hill of Howth is the event for you. We have 4 great up and coming bands for you:
REALLY GOOD TIME
Really Good Time are a band from Dublin that sounds like 'Vertigo' era U2 covering Viagra Boys, or early Pixies and LCD Soundsystem records in a blender with some cheap speed. Their music toes the line between noisy and melodic, weird and anthemic. In their three years of existence, their mission has always been about finding ecstatic release within a crowd of bodies, moving together amidst waves of amplification.
The Sun has declared that Really Good Time's "unique sound is destined to fill out arenas," while DIY praised their "earworm guitar riffs injected with an irresistible sense of fun." This latest offering promises to deliver on the band's mission of finding ecstatic release within a crowd of bodies, moving together amidst waves of amplification.
Really Good Time's rise has been meteoric, from selling out headlines in Dublin to independently touring the UK and supporting acts like Franz Ferdinand and The Murder Capital. Now signed to Mother Artists for live bookings, the band is poised for their next chapter of growth.
LAST APOLLO
Recognised as ‘One to Watch’ by publications such as The Irish Times, Hotpress and Nialler 9, artist and composer Last Apollo (a.k.a Lucy Rice) has gained momentum across streaming services but it is ultimately her astounding live shows that has lead to the cult following Rice has steadily cultivated across Ireland, Paris and the UK. Last Apollo effortlessly commands the attention of any crowd and ensnares them with her haunting lyrics and dynamic vocal style. Placing great value on literary influences as well as musical ones, Last Apollo’s songs are as intricately crafted lyrically as they are musically - each word is deliberate, weighted and merely amplified by her emotionally-charged vocal delivery. Her influences include PJ Harvey, Patti Smith and Indigo De Souza.
BLUE SLATE
....exploded onto the Irish music scene in 2023, and their mesmerising live shows and impressive singles earned them a spot on the ever-exclusive Hot Press “Hot for 2024” list. The genre-defying rockers have played across Europe, including in London, Paris and at Rotterdam’s Left of the Dial festival. Blue Slate cemented their status as one of the most promising up-and-coming bands in Ireland when they played a sold out headline show in The Workman's Club upon returning from London. They have also supported the likes of the UK’s Big Special.
With the Irish music scene more prolific than ever, it takes true talent to be heard over all the noise. Blue Slate not only set themselves apart, but make it look easy thanks to their effortlessly infectious, guitar-driven hooks and piercing lyricism.
MARTINA & THE MOONS
Martina and the Moons is an all-female four-piece band based in Dublin. They have recently supported the UK band Porridge Radio in Whelans Mainroom, as well as Thumper’ in a sold out Workmans Mainroom. In addition, they played at the female-fronted festival ‘We’ve Only Just Begun', and they filmed an acoustic set with Lips to Ears for their “Car Boot Sale” series, which can be found on Youtube.
The band consists of Martina Moon (vocals, songwriting), Sarah Morgan (guitar), Ruby Levins (bass), and Zahira Ellis (drums). Their debut single, Emigrate, has accumulated over 7000 streams on Spotify, and has been featured on publications such as GCN Magazine or The Going Out Out Guide, and their second single, Omnibus Boners, was accompanied by an independently filmed fun and satirical music video which can be found on YouTube.
Their influences vary from the singer songwriters of the 60s and 70s such as Paul Simon, Carole King or Joni Mitchell, to the BritPop and rock bands of the 90s, such as Elastica, Catatonia, Radiohead or Blur. With lyrics about alienation and yearning for connection, they have been described by Strephen Byrne (Golden Plec) as ‘the latest example of Irish ladies delivering the goods’.
