About this Event
We will leave at 4:30 pm from the Graduate Hotel, and return to the Graduate around 6:30 pm. This month, Gallery Night and The Avenue Concept (TAC) bring to you the first event of a three-part series titled “Gallery Night Providence and The Avenue Concept: Experience the best of both!”, showcasing Providence’s inviting indoor gallery spaces and vibrant outdoor art scene. This series is funded through a grant from RI Commerce.
This is a walking tour, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather!
This walking tour will be led by Gallery Night Guide Jenn Wilson. We will visit the following locations and exhibits:
- The Gallery at City Hall - Presenting the work of artists Kannetha Brown and Tarik Bartel in their exhibition titled YEAY YAI: An Ode to Grandmothers. Experience the stories of their beloved Southeast Asian grandmothers captured in each frame by these two talented portrait photographers.
- AS220 Main Gallery - At AS220’s Main Gallery, appreciate two exhibitions. Founding Whimsy Wherever I Can engages viewers with playful work by painter and comic illustrator Moxie Popky-Gousie. Opening your Heart with the Energies of the Cosmos by Ewa Rose accompanies Moxie’s work with vibrant colors and lots of movement.
- AS220 Aborn Gallery - On view in the Aborn Gallery is a show titled Pestilence by James Iannone. Born in Providence and raised in Cranston, Iannone has a long standing relationship with AS220; it was here that his first show was held in 1998!
- Mural Activation: She Never Came / Salt Water / Empire Rising - TAC will host a Pop-up at the Mathewson Street Lot sharing stories of three spectacular murals: Garden of Journey’s Salt Water, BEZT’s She Never Came and Lauren YS’s NEW PVDFEST commissioned mural “帝国崛起 (Empire Rising)” - The Pop-up will feature a parking space takeover, illuminated and animated murals, art chairs by local artists, and complimentary cocoa & coffee.
More work from The Avenue Concept will be included along the way!
- Morphous by Lionel Smit
- Utility Box Project
- The Serpent by Amanda Hill
PARKING SPECIAL: The Graduate will offer a discounted parking rate to attendees at $12/per car for the October 17th Gallery Night. Discounted rate stickers can be picked up at the hotel’s front desk and are to be placed on the back side of the parking ticket guests get as they enter the Biltmore Garage.
Half of the spots on the tour will always be available (first-come, first-served), completely free, to anyone who shows up on Gallery Night!
The other half of the spots are available to reserve in advance via Eventbrite. We ask that you donate $1 when you check out, for the convenience of guaranteeing your spot on the tour of your choice ahead of time.
Reserving Multiple Tickets? Eventbrite requires you to make a separate reservation for each ticket. Each time you put in an order, it's only for one ticket (even if you choose to donate more than $1). For example, tickets for 3 people would be 3 separate orders, each with a $1 donation.
Accessibility notes:
- All tours involve some walking and some stops may include stairs.
- We also invite wheelchair users to enjoy a self-guided tour on Gallery Night. We have suggestions (make your own tour tab on our website) where we note which galleries are wheelchair accessible.
Some notes to help you out the night of the event!
- We recommend arriving to the Graduate 5 to 10 minutes before your tour time. One of our volunteers will be at a podium with a Gallery Night banner, near the main entrance, and will check you in and answer any questions!
- If your plans change, please remember to cancel your Eventbrite reservation so that someone else can enjoy the tour.
- Tours occasionally run late. We recommend allowing buffer time if you're planning on attending another event after ours.
We have other guided tours the same night! Go to our Eventbrite Organizer Page and scroll down, the other tours will be listed under "Upcoming Events."
You can also discover more about Gallery Night Providence on our website.
And before you go...
We are a non-profit organization, and we depend on the generosity of individuals and businesses in the community to continue to present Gallery Night as a FREE event!
If you want to support us, you can donate at this link. Donate at least $10, mention it at check in on Gallery Night, and we'll offer you a Gallery Night tote bag as a token of our appreciation. Every little bit helps us invest in the creative community here in Providence and show people some of the incredible art that Providence has to offer!
THANK YOU!
