Since this event is open to all species on the same day and requires multiple volunteers, we are going to split into two groups each for 1.5 hours: group 1 (beef, dairy, poultry, and sheep) and group 2 (swine, rabbit, goats). However, if you cannot make it during your species time frame, you are welcome to come during the other group’s time.
1. Exhibitors must bring their livestock record books. First year exhibitors, should be using the Ohio 4-H printed book, and all second year and up exhibitors can bring the livestock record book pages. Both books are scored equally. We just need to see a record of your project(s) for the year. State Fair exhibitors will need to have the Ohio 4-H printed book for State Fair.
2. When exhibitors arrive to skillathon, (1) they will check in, (2) they will be given a scorecard, clipboard, and a pencil, (3) they will go through each station indicated on their scorecard and this can be done in any order at their own pace.
a. At check in, exhibitors will be given a scorecard based on their age as of January 1, 2024. However, exhibitors can request an Outstanding Market Exhibitor (OME) scorecard. This scorecard represents the senior-level stations and will be eligible for the Outstanding Market Exhibitor (OME) award for the fair. The award combines skillathon, showmanship, and market class scores for an overall recipient, and this recipient will be slated to sell after the Grand and Reserve Champions of their species during the livestock sale.
b. Exhibitors just need to complete ONE skillathon to be eligible to exhibit at the Marion County Fair. However, if exhibitors wish to be eligible for OME in multiple species, then they will need to complete those species skillathons. For example, if Chris wants to be eligible for Goat and Beef, then he will need to complete the OME Goat and Beef skillathons.
3. Exhibitors will return their scorecard, clipboard, and pencil to the check in table before leaving the skillathon.
4. Ohio 4-H offers a Winning 4-H Plan for reasonable accommodations for members to be successful at skillathon, please contact Lydia Leeds at [email protected] with your request for an accommodation.
5. In addition to skillathons, the Senior Fair Board office will be open during the 3-hour events for exhibitors to get their photo taken for their photo ID badge and parent/guardian(s) to purchase their fair passes.
