On Friday, May 15th, the beloved 3rd Friday Céilí joins that SNNW festival with a very special focus: celebrating and welcoming the next generation of Irish musicians. Esteemed fiddler Betsy Branch & Greta Hazilla will lead Portland’s youth and Adult musicians in an unforgettable evening of live Irish music.
Last year’s youth-led céilí was a hugely successful, joy-filled night, and this year promises to be even bigger. Any youth musician is welcome to learn the tunes and join in. Betsy will provide a set list of tunes in advance, giving young players the chance to play alongside seasoned musicians and experience the magic of powering a dance floor.
“There’s nothing quite like the energy when young musicians and dancers come together,” says caller Maldon Meehan. “The céilí is where tradition comes alive, and we’re thrilled to open the floor — and the music — to the next generation.”
Please bring a water bottle, towel, and non-scuffing slick or leather-soled shoes (no street shoes)
Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or brand new, you’re welcome on the floor. Come for the community, the tunes, and the craic—and support Portland’s young musicians as they step into the tradition.
