CATC History

It's worth noting, that the show started off being just a once a month open mic affair on the last Friday of each month. Then, after the most strict times of the pandemic lockdown, CATC was the first of the comedy showcases to emerge with regular events, having even hosted a couple of Zoom shows during restrictions too.
August 2021 was the time to get back to the business of spreading laughter. With social distancing, space was tight in The CASTLE (Comic Association's Studio for Teaching, Learning & Execution), so the last Friday of the month grew to include the last Saturday as well. Sticking with the open mic vibe, this became known as The Fast & the Funniest – with at least 13 jesters on every bill, no other SG show looked like it, or was like it.
The new year saw CATC introduce mid month feature shows, where the cast was less, and headliners had at least 30 mins on stage. Every show since Aug 2021 has been a sell-out!
The success of The Fast and the Funniest gave rise to the CATC Jester Workshops, where anyone who is interested in stand up can come and get involved – some gems have been discovered through these efforts, and this a major inspiration behind 'Judge' Jerry deciding to host 4 shows that mainly feature CASTLE regulars, as part of the - CATC 4th Anniversary Comedy MAYhem Festival 2022, 4 weekends of multi-style comedy madness during the month of May! About CATC Co-Founder, Judge Jerry

Born in Reading, UK, Judge is of Barbados Afro-Caribbean descent.
He came to Singapore in 1996, and after spending 30 odd years in advertising & design, he became the President of the Association of Comic Artists (Singapore) (ACAS) in 2007 - that's comic books & manga, not stand up comics. A fact that always gets a laugh
Still continuing in his role as publisher, educator and commercial storytelling creative director, Judge hosted a fun experimental evening of stand up on May 4th 2018. It was at the suggestion from ACAS Member, Santhanaram 'Ram' Jayaram, who himself was a comedy hobbyist as well as management trainer.
Now, this suggestion meant more to Judge than Ram could have imagined, because the deep history of comicbooks comes from the hallowed halls of European royalty, and court jesters. These comical folk spawned the art of visual caricaturing, and then single panel cartoons. These in turn progressed to strip cartoons, which gave birth to comics, and the rest is history as they say – CATC is in part a direct homage to the history of comics.
Given the modern day history of comedy houses in general, and the historical gravity behind the concept, Judge decided to set about finding a partner which is alcoholic in nature. This is where his Barbados heritage sprung into effect with his creatively fertile mind - “When I was a young kid, I would often see my father and his friends laughing while encircling a bottle of Mount Gay Barbados Rum”.
To his glee, the brand was imported into Singapore under the brand of Remy Martin. With those many years of marketing behind him, Judge was able to win sponsorship from the Rum brand – this was also made easier by the fact that Judge (before covid) was garnering a small following as an old school Reggae Dub DJ.
So, everyone is welcome to come and have a glass of rum, and especially enjoy the new reduction in Covid restrictions, at -
