You are invited to the 3rd Annual STOP THE SILENCE: Surrounding Women’s Violence Awareness Event (All welcome, not just a women’s event) Date: Sunday January 18th at 1pm-4pm at the downtown main library in Meeting room A/B
· Education & Statistics presented by The Center for Nonviolence.
· Policy & Legislation insights from the Indiana Crime Victims Rights Coalition (We are currently writing legislation surrounding regulations for sex crimes in Indiana)
· A Safety & Self-Defense Class
· Immersive "I" Walls: Interactive spaces for collective healing, including the “I Was,” “I Felt,” “I Need,” and “I Am” walls
· A Presentation by the Human Library, featuring a curated selection of "books" impacted by all forms of women’s violence.
· A Mental and Spiritual Wellness Grounding back to our humanity exercise by Dr. Chef Tea Cook
· Community Resources to provide continued wrap around service support
This is a space where every form of abuse belongs and needs to be discussed. We are here to break the damaging stigma that emotional, verbal, financial, or psychological abuse "doesn't count." We reject the old lie that "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Verbal abuse is domestic violence. Physical & sexual harm, Name-calling, belittling, threats, gaslighting, manipulation, and constant criticism leave deep, lasting scars. Any act that uses power and control to harm another person is abuse. We are breaking the cycle of minimization. Helping people view abuse not just as separate entities, but as the interconnected system of violence that it is.
