Some history:
Anti V-Day Cover Shows were all the rage a little over 10 years ago, thanks to NYC and Philly based feminist collectives. They largely showcased riot grrrl or riot grrrl adjacent cover bands, and was a room filled with women-identified individuals screaming along to their favorite songs as one. It celebrated self-love over romantic love, and protested against the capitalist and heteronormative foundation of the hallmark Valentine's Day. Here's a video of a LiLiPUT cover band at brooklyn's defunct death by audio in 2011
Buffy the Vampire Slayer's feminism is still considered disruptive in the standards of action television shows of today. Buffy is not only a Strong Female Character, but one who is a fully fleshed out character. She deals with grief, lust, vampires, sisterly bonding, a patriarchal Watchers' Council, and losing her virginity. We think Buffy Summers would be a great supporter of reproductive rights, and a fierce fighter for reproductive justice.
All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center provides non-judgmental support for pregnant people and parents across Indiana, along with options for those with unwanted pregnancy. All-Options houses the Hoosier Diaper Program, providing diaper assistance to Monroe County and the surrounding areas. All-Options is an important tool forall Hoosiers right to bodily autonomy and reproductive justice - the right to control what you do with your body, what choices you make regarding child rearing, and support in making the best choices for yourself and your family.
* We cannot talk about community care without recognizing the continuing risk of Covid-19. This event itself leaves every attendee up to risk when participating. Masking is encouraged, but we know that many are willing to put their health at risk by not masking.
If you'd prefer to avoid ticketing fees from Eventbrite, please email us at [email protected] and we are happy to talk further. You can also buy your tickets at the door via cash or venmo! If the ticket costs are still inaccessible to you, no one will be turned away for lack of funds as long as there is adequate space.
By buying a ticket, you are agreeing to respect the space, performers, volunteers, and your fellow guests. Please keep this in mind so we can continue to utilize this space for all ages events!
