Step into the creative world of cosplay fabrication with our hands-on workshop, “3D Printed Cosplay & Props: Upgrading Your Costumes with 3D Printing.” This 90‑minute session is perfect for anyone curious about using 3D printing to elevate their costumes, props, and character builds. Whether you're a seasoned cosplayer, a maker looking to expand your skills, or a fan eager to bring your favorite designs into the real world, this workshop offers an accessible and inspiring introduction.
What You'll Learn:
- Exploring 3D Printing for Cosplay:
Discover how 3D printing can be used to create armor pieces, props, accessories, and detailed costume components. - Materials & Filaments for Fabrication:
Learn about the most common materials used in cosplay printing—such as PLA, PETG, or more specific filaments that act like rubber or foam. As well as how to choose the right one for your project. - Finding Ready-to-Print Models:
Get an overview of popular online libraries and communities where you can safely and legally find models for cosplay and prop work. - Designing Your Own Creations:
Explore beginner-friendly modeling programs (like Tinkercad, Blender, or similar tools) that allow you to customize or design your own pieces from scratch. - Tools & Techniques for Better Builds:
Gain insight into turning your prints into high quality finished pieces including assembly tips, priming, sanding, painting, and advanced steps like molding plastics or combining textiles, closures, and more. - Ask a Cosplayer:
Your instructor will have real life experince of taking 3D prints and turning them into costumes worn at conventions. You will have the chance to ask an "expert" and learn the do's and don't's for props and costumes.
Who Should Attend: This workshop is ideal for cosplayers, makers, hobbyists, students, and anyone excited about combining creativity with technology. No prior 3D printing or design experience is required, but some introductory information will be skipped in this class.
What to Bring: A laptop or tablet is not required for this workshop, however you may want a way to take notes or pull up examples of projects. We’ll provide the guidance, examples, and will use Bambu Studio as the slicer of choice for any walk-throughs.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with the knowledge and confidence to start incorporating 3D printing into your own cosplay and prop projects.
