37th Annual WFB James, MD Symposium-Maternal Mental Health
About this Event
Despite increased awareness of maternal mental health concerns, significant professional practice gaps continue to exist among healthcare providers in the recognition, assessment, referral, and management of maternal mental health conditions. Many clinicians report limited training and discomfort in identifying perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, trauma-related conditions, and other behavioral health concerns affecting patients during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Additional gaps include inconsistent screening practices, limited knowledge of evidence-based interventions and community resources, barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration, and disparities in the delivery of culturally responsive care. Providers may also face challenges addressing the long-term psychological impact of pregnancy complications, infertility, pregnancy loss, and chronic stressors that affect women throughout the lifespan.
This activity is designed to address these gaps by increasing learner knowledge, strengthening clinical competence, and promoting best practices in maternal mental healthcare. Participants will gain updated information, practical strategies, and collaborative approaches aimed at improving patient engagement, timely intervention, continuity of care, and overall maternal health outcomes.
