About This Event
A Celebration of Visibility
We are bringing something important to Derby. As part of our very first weekend of events for Lesbian Visibility Week, Vox Feminarum Women’s Voices, in partnership with MOSAICC, is hosting a screening of 3000 Lesbians Go to York.
This film tells the story of the York Lesbian Arts Festival, once the largest and longest running gathering of lesbian, bi and queer women in the UK. It was not just a festival. It was visibility. It was connection. It was a space where women could exist fully, creatively and together.
The film features voices including Jackie Kay, Stella Duffy, Sarah Waters, Val McDermid and Horse McDonald, alongside the story of how the festival began, rooted in community, not institutions.
3000 Lesbians Go to York was selected for the Iris Prize LGBTQ plus Film Festival in Cardiff, Wales.
What to Expect
Film screening of 3000 Lesbians Go to York
A short Q and A with Jane Traies, writer of the book the film is based on and one of the film’s producers
Book signing of Three Thousand Lesbians Go to York

We will stay in the room after the film. This is not just about watching. It is about listening, reflecting and being together.
Why This Matters
This is about more than a film.
It is about remembering what has already been built.
It is about recognising that visibility did not come easy.
It is about making sure those stories are not lost.
And it is about creating space here in Derby now.
This is a space for community building.
Lesbians at the centre. Allies welcome.
