-- In just under two hours, riders are guided on horseback from Imhoff Farm, along with the protected wetlands system of Table Mountain National Park to emerge on the spectacular Noordhoek beach.

The award-winning Imhoff Equestrian Centre provides both locals and international visitors with an outdoor experience of a lifetime. It's another one on your bucket list.

The riders are taken on a ride along the protected wetlands system of Table Mountain National Park to the spectacular Noordhoek beach. Upon arriving at the beach, riders have the opportunity to take a controlled walk through the surf or a relaxed stroll along the back pan towards Chapmans Peak. Sweeping views through to Hout Bay can be enjoyed en-route. Indigenous wildlife such as whales, otters and a variety of birdlife have also been known to make an appearance.

This will be a private group. It makes no difference whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced pro. Mounting a horse, holding the reins and feeling the power of the animal under the saddle is a truly thrilling experience. The stunning views a bonus.

For these group events payments are made in advance for Accommodation or Adventure Activities or Permits, hence no refunds are on offer. If you are not able to join, a refund will not be offered unless the event is full and the last person refills your place. Once I have received their payment, I will refund you. I do however make every effort to regularly re-advertise cancelled spaces, via my various listings, that includes Facebook, Meetup and my email listing, in an attempt to fill up the event and hopefully refund you.
If you can't make it for one of the adventures it is recommended that you find a replacement yourself, as I cannot guarantee that a replacement will be found. For the weekends away, any person who takes your place must have done one of the regular walks before the weekend away as per the usual qualifying requirements below.
With cancellations less than 7 days prior to our departure day, NO REFUNDS are on offer and your spot will NOT be re-advertised as it is too short notice. People tend to make other plans and bookings in the last week are very hard to refill unless I have a waiting list.
I also reserve the right to re-schedule or cancel a tour should the minimum number of people not be attained or if the booking is cancelled by the outsourced operator or due to the weather not being suitable; in this case a full refund will be offered.

Imhoff Farm was bought in 1912 by Johannes Gerhardus Pieter van der Horst. A well-known Cape Town attorney and businessman, he married the principal of Tamboerskloof School, Annie Hardman. Together they transformed the old Imhoff’s Gift into one of the original show farms of the Cape.
In 1958 a veld fire destroyed most of the original homestead and sadly the two wooden figureheads, which kept guard from their posts in front of the farmhouse, were lost.
Looking out across the marshes and Long Beach towards Chapman’s Peak and Hout Bay, these figureheads kept a quiet vigil over one of the most iconic views in the Cape Peninsula.
Today visitors to the farm can still enjoy this view and on clear days even see the protected bay of Hout Bay.

The minimum age to ride is 16 years old. You don’t need to have any horse experience to ride. I’ve only ridden a horse a couple of other times in my life and I’m definitely not comfortable yet.

Although there are many horses on the property, Imhoff Farm will pre-select a horse for you based on the weight and height that you send them when you do your booking.

The Horses - There are a lot of mixed reviews on google for horse riding at Imhoff Farm, but our experience was good. I expect because these are live animals, it’s hard to predict how each will behave.
When we first entered the horse enclosure, the horses seemed a little agitated with us. My horse, Pocket, wasn’t fond of my holding the reins. This worked out since he knew what he was doing anyway so it didn’t matter for our journey.

The Horseback Riding Trail
There is a guide each at the front and the back of the riding group to help manage the horses. The horses know what they are doing for the most part. They stop when the leader stops and continue when the leader continues.
The first part of the trail takes you through the small winery at Imhoff Farm and past the petting zoo.
Then, you’ll wander through the sandy trail. It is here when the horse decided to walk through the bushes instead of the open trail ahead of them. Not sure why… The view is gorgeous though!

Tips for Horse Riding at Imhoff Farm
You are asked to wear long pants and closed shoes. The horses like wandering through bushes, even when there is a clear path ahead so don’t wear anything that will easily tear.
You can’t bring a backpack or purse with you on the ride so wear pants with pockets or a jacket with pockets to keep your phone for pictures.
The guides will take your pictures with your phone once you reach the beach area.
I wore a jacket even in November because I felt the chill of the beach winds but less sensitive people won’t need this.

FROM CAPE TOWN - Driving Directions from Cape Town City Centre:
Meetup Location – Over the mountain via Ou Kaapse Road (M64). You will pass Silvermine Drive on your right and then enter Sun Valley. Pass the shopping mall (on your right) as you drive through the first robot intersection and then turn right at the second robot intersection, onto Kommetjie Road (M65). After a further 7km (before Kommetjie), turn right into Imhoff Farm at the robot intersection (opposite Ocean View).
