Ramya Harishankar is the Artistic Director of the Arpana Dance Company and School (ADC), one of California’s premier institutions for Bharatanatyam, and a protégé of the legendary gurus Kalaimamani Swamimalai K. Rajaratnam and Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan.
Internationally recognised for her nuanced approach to abhinaya, her work draws from the rich repertoire of padams and javalis, where she explores psychological partnership between dancer and audience.
A recipient of the California Arts Council Legacy Artist Fellowship and the Kala Seva Bharathi award from Bharat Kalachar, India, Ramya Harishankar continues to inspire audiences and dancers through performances, workshops, choreography, teaching, and acclaimed abhinaya masterclasses presented internationally.
